Morocco itinerary: Marrakech to Fes Desert trip

    3 Days in Morocco

Day 1: Marrakech » Tizi N T’ichka » Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah » Ouarzazate » Rose Valley » Boumalne Dades

3 Day trip from Marrakech to Fes via the Merzouga Desert commences today. We will pick you up from your accommodation in Marrakech City at 8:00 a.m. After picking you up, we drive to Boumalne Dades, where we will spend the first night. On the way, we will traverse the breathtaking landscapes of the High Atlas Mountains and make a stop at Tizi N’T’ichka, a pass with an elevation of 2260 meters above sea level. We will witness the magical view and capture some memorable photos before continuing on to the fortified Kasbah in Ait Ben Haddou Village.

The name Kasbah means citadel and Ksar in Arabic. Several movies and series, including “Gladiator,” “Lawrence of Arabia,” and “Game of Thrones,” have used this ancient landmark as their backdrop. Before we leave, feel free to wander in the Kabbah’s alleys and streets to discover every detail and learn about Moroccan architecture. Near the Kasbah, we make a break for lunch; therefore, we drive to Ouarzazate, also known as the Hollywood of Africa. It is optional to visit the Atlas studio in the city, where hundreds of films are currently in production (tickets currently cost 8 euros per person).

Next, the journey proceeds to Rose Valley and Kalaat M’Gouna. If you want to visit one of the women’s cooperatives in the area, ask your guide to stop. After a full exploration day, we will drop you off in the afternoon at your accommodation in Boumalne Dades.

Day 2: Dades Gorge » Todgha Gorge » Sahara Desert of Merzouga

Today presents us with the highlight of this 3-day Morocco Desert Tour. After a typical breakfast in your Riad, we pay a short visit to the stunning gorge in Dades to witness the beautiful view of what this place has to offer. Nevertheless, in Dades, we stop to visit the monkey finger rocks. Thereafter, we head to Tinghir Gorge, passing by enchanting Berber villages and breathtaking views along the way. Once in the Gorge, we take a walk along the Todgha River, which met the Dades River and formed a stream extending for about 28 km. The two rivers slowly carved the sandstone and limestone, eventually forming a giant river with a depth of about 500 meters.

The Gorge has a wonderful view from the top of the canyons, especially for those who climb the rocks. Later, take a break for lunch at a traditional local restaurant, then move on, not far from the Gorge, and stop to capture the spectacular view of the Todgha Valley. From there, we head to Malaab Village, where you can try on traditional Berber outfits and take a photo with them in front of the palm trees that lie in the area. Furthermore, we finally leave for the Sahara Desert.

Upon arrival, enjoy the camel ride, crossing the golden dunes with a stop at a top viewpoint to watch the magical sunset. Upon arrival at the camp, you will experience the traditional Moroccan welcome of a teacup filled with nuts or sweets, followed by a delicious dinner and Berber music around the campfire. Without a doubt, it’s going to be a memorable night full of dancing and great vibes.

Day 3: Sahara Desert » Erfoud » Ziz Valley » Midelt » Cedar Forest » Ifrane » Fes

Make your last day in the desert by waking early to watch the sunrise on the dunes near your camp. Later, after finishing your breakfast, ride the camel back to Merzouga Village, or your driver guide will come to the camp to pick you up.

From Merzouga, we make our way to Fes, known as the Scientific Capital, which we will reach in the late afternoon. Along the way, we will pause to enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of the Ziz Valley at Oasis, where you can witness only palm trees. In Midelt, we pause for lunch, then continue our journey to the Cedar Forest, stopping briefly to observe the Barbary Macaques, allowing everyone to feed them, but we advise caution.

In addition, we make one last stop in Ifrane, located at the heart of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Feel free to take a walk in this cozy town, which is famous as “Little Switzerland.” After 9 hours of travel, we drop you off at your accommodation in Fes. From there, your 3-day desert tour from Marrakech to Fes comes to an end.
