Morocco itinerary: 2 Day trip from Marrakech to Merzouga

2 Days in Morocco

Day 1: Marrakech » High Atlas Mountains » Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah » Ouarzazate » Todgha Gorge » Merzouga Desert (564 Km – 10 Hours’ Drive)

Today marks the beginning of your 2-day Morocco Desert Tour. A native driver will be picking you up at 7:00. From your accommodation in Marrakech. The way is very long to reach our destination, the Sahara Desert, so we will break it up with some interesting stops and visits. Once leaving Marrakech behind, you will get to the first stop at the highest point in the High Atlas Mountains, called Tizi N’T’ichka, which is a pass at an elevation of 2260 meters above sea level.

We only stop here to capture the breathtaking view of the Atlas and Berber villages, after which we continue our journey across the Grand Atlas Mountains. The Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou awaits, where you can explore an ancient Moroccan Kasbah that has served as a filming location for numerous famous movies, including “Gladiator,” “The Game of Thrones,” “The Mammy,” and others.

Next is the Rose Valley, Todgha Valley and Gorge, Sahara Desert

Later, after you finish discovering the hidden gems of this charming Kasbah, we make a break to have lunch at a local restaurant that serves high-quality food. From there, we continue to Todgha Gorge via the city of Roses (Kalaat M’Gouna), where, if you wish, you can visit one of the women’s cooperatives that produces various bioproducts from roses. Every year in April, the city hosts a festival known as the Rose Festival.

Once in Todgha, have a short walk along the Baby River. The gorges extend over a distance of 25 kilometers. They are solid, rocky components that do not break easily. The turbid Todgha Valley, flowing year-round, penetrates them. In the late afternoon, we reach our destination, Merzouga. Here, you will ride the camels among the golden dunes to spend a night full of vibes in the heart of the desert. Enjoy at the Camp Berber music and dinner, later watch on your own the stars away from the camp’s lights.

Day 2: Sahara Desert » Rissani » Daraa Valley » Ouarzazate » Tizi N T’ichka » Marrakech

(564 Km – 10 Hours’ Drive)

Catch an unforgettable sunrise today before we leave! Waking up early today is a must to witness what might be the best sunrise in your life. After enjoying a Berber breakfast at the camp, you should pack your luggage, tip the staff, and mount your camel to return to the Desert Village to Meet your driver guide. Or if you prefer, ride back the car to the Village. Once you’ve met your driver guide, you will take a different route back to Marrakech, where you’ll have the opportunity to see different landscapes along the way.

Our first stop today is the Rissani Market, which is open three days a week (Thursday, Tuesday, and Sunday). It’s a typical traditional market where all the villages in the area come to shop or sell what they produce. Donkeys are one of the modes of transportation here, so you’ll likely see them parking a lot instead of cars. We might take a Madoufina (Arabic pizza) with us and have it for lunch.

From Rissani, we continue to Alnif for a short break, then set off again to Nakoub and the Daraa Valley, passing through the largest river in Morocco, the Daraa River, which spans 1100 kilometers. Later, we cross again the High Atlas Mountains and Tizi N Tichka Pass. In the late afternoon or evening, we drop you off at your accommodation in Marrakech, and from there, your Merzouga tour from Marrakech 2 Days comes to an end.
