Fes city Tour

Fes city, as known is the capital of Islam in Morocco, the region of Fez-Bulmán and the prefecture of Fez. It is located in the region formerly called Hispania Nova. It is one of the four imperial cities called Marrakech, Meknes and Rabat. In Morocco it is considered as the religious and cultural center of the country. Its university, famous for the study of Arabic and Muslim religion, makes it a crossing point for a large number of Moroccan students.

History of Fes

The city of Fez was the capital of Morocco for several periods in the history of the African country, but it definitely lost that condition with the French colonial occupation. In 1912, most of Morocco became part of the French colonial Empire. And the capital of the new colony was Rabat, which maintained its status after independence in 1956. That same year, the city’s Jewish population disappeared almost by complete, partly because of the riots of the Arab population. During the time under French control the modern part of the city was built, known as the French name of Ville Nouvelle, which is the commercial center of the city.
